Week 8

CAM: Computer Aided Machining (Build Something Big)

Intro - the PromptBox

People keep telling me that their LLM of chance can't do what they need it to do. Then they show me their prompt and I have no clue what they're even asking the LLM to do... so how can it know what to do?

Thus, this week I wanted to create the 'PromptBox' - a black box that a person goes inside. There's a slit for a piece of paper to be inserted. Everyone working with LLMs should have to print off their prompt on paper and slide it into the box to ask a real human if they can even understand what it's supposed to do.

Steps

  1. Make a box in fusion using parametric design
  2. Make a mechanical model of box in fusion
  3. Use auto arrange to lay it out on a sketch that is the size of the plywood
  4. Project the auto-arranged parts to a sketch, export that sketch as DXF
  5. Import DXF into VCut 3d, scale to go from cm to inches
  6. Follow instructions for making toolpath, cut on ShopBot
  7. Assemble with pressfit
  8. Optionally, wood glue joints together

And then I ran out of time, so we pivoted to making the box the size of a head, instead of the size of a body - but the prompt box was realized!:
