Week 4: 3D Scanning and Printing

This week, we kicked off the group project, which was all about testing the design rules for our 3D printers. We used a Purse MK4 3D printer in the EECS lab at MIT. Anthony gave us a solid rundown on 3D printing technology, explaining how everything works. He even showed us how to slice the 3D models, different fill types, and how to add support. For our prints, we went with a 0.2 mm layer height and a 0.4 mm nozzle. We grabbed the printer test example from the class website, sliced it on my computer, and then we split up the prints between two printers. One group that didn’t need support, which tested the printer’s ability to handle cantilever structures, while the other group that required support.
