HAOHENG TANG'S PROJECT

HTMAA23

The assignment this week is to do computer-controlled cutting. I am going to make the use of both the laser cutter and the vinylcutter.

Vinyl Cutting
1. Fabrics

My idea is to use fabrics with different colors, textures and patterns to create a collage. I picked up some nice-looking fabrics from the REEF shop at the Harvard SEC building.

Sketching on paper. I'd like to collage a squirrel!

2. Stickers (update on Nov 4th)

It's Halloween! I am going to DIY a costume for the GSD Halloween party.

Laser Cutting
Cardboard - modular design

For this assignment, we are asked to do some modular design, laser cut it with cardboards and explore the various ways that we can assemble the module.

Wood sheet (update on Dec11)

I made a steamer basket using a piece of 1/8'' thick wood sheet. I'd like to share the process of making it.

... Following the instructions of laser cutting in REEF ... Setting the parameters according to the material.

I assumed that the origin of laser cutter is at the upper-left corner but I got some offset during my first serveral tries. I soon noticed that it was because the size of my Illustrator artboard doesn't match the size of the laser cutter and the machine automatically move the drawing to the center of the cutting area.
So, I moved it back to the origin manually.

... Six pieces in total. ...

It is my first time to try bending wood sheet by cutting specific patterns on it. It turns out that it bends well but I have no idea how to connect the two ends of the wood sheet.

I put a "baozi" inside. It looks like a dim sam that you can get at Chinadown, right? It is actually a container for my design and it will be used again in week 12, in which we work on interfacing.
