With no access to CNC router at Harvardsite I decided to go with cardboard and create an installation for public space that utilized cardboard and repeated patterns to create a large-scale temporary installation at Barra Restaurant in Summerville.

Here is the site

Measurements were taken

Layout of Marigolds was chosen for this Mexican Restaurant in celebration of Dia de Muertos.

Initial drawing was made by hand, then scanned into photohsop and faded color map created at 30% opacity then printed and a final rendering with ink created on top of printout.

This is how it looked after using Image/Adjust/Black and White mode used to delete unwanted color elements.

A color layout was created in Illustrator with 4 layers making each flower

Cardboard available was 30x40 and cut it to fit smaller laser bed size of 18x24

<

180 flower units were in the design (each with 4 separate sub-parts) for 720 unique laser cut elements.
