Week 4
3D Printing and Scanning
Canadian Ring
I designed the inner diameter of the ring in Rhino to be 17 mm to hopefully exactly fit around my finger. However, when I actually went to print the ring, the Makerbot software rendered it very differently from how I drew in Rhino--and not just because of any support structure present. The suspicion is that this is due to a problem with the Rhino mesh that is exported as an STL file. Due to the complex nature of the drawing there are some open surfaces in Rhino (e.g. edges not completely closed) and I think Makerbot is getting confused about this.

I return to 3D printing in the final project and successfully make a geometrically simpler structure.
