Week 14

Things I did this week:

  1. Design and produce something with a digital fabrication process

Embroidery


I was interested in embroidery and Alec trained me on the machine in the EECS shop.

The machine!
Free patterns in CDs
First design
Changed thread colors
Stopped since I downsized too much and the layers are too thick (2 were printed but there were 3 more on top), might break the needle if proceed.
Second attempt, upsized the design of butterfly, I was holding the "USB stick" for the machine that contains the design PES files.
Failed, the thread broke
All jamed
Third attempt, tried some simple non overlapping design, this was much better, still something went wrong in the middle, but it was minor and fixable.

Design vs my final result, it does not look identical because I couldn't find "cream brown", and replaced it with "light brown", but apparently "cream brown" is a bright yellow.
