Hynson Marvel for sticking by me while we turned silver, or at least a rusty bronze, with this one.
“Lacrosse is like one of those diseases that comes through the family and infects everybody. It caught every one of us.”
- Ted Wolford
Developed for lacrosse coaches as a means to easily create, update and share timely information with their players via a team website. Using a control panel, coaches could setup an online presence, upload game photos, keep player stats and even cancel a practice from their own homes. The site effectively eliminated the much hated “phone tree” and was an instant success.
After months of intense advertiser interest, Lax Network switched its business model to better mimic Geocities, embedding targeted advertisements onto the team pages in exchange for free hosting. Lacrosse coaches were also offered a premium site, without advertisements, for a small fee.
Lax Network quickly blossomed into an advertising network, serving up over 125,000 ads a day. LaxNetwork was acquired by AllLacrosseAmerica in 2004 when I left to attend the Naval Academy.
