Old Project

As mentioned in my week 1 final project sketch, I’m building an RC glider as a first-person video and aerial video platform.

In the spirit of this class, I’m going to build the glider from scratch. Here’s what I mean by “from scratch”:

• Design and fabricate my own airframe and control surfaces
• Design my own PCB and flight controller (and hand-fabricate prototypes)
• Write my own flight controller software

I might also end up making a propeller from scratch, depending on how hard it is to fabricate a high-quality propeller — I haven’t had the chance to do much research about this yet.

Here’s what I won’t be making from scratch (and ordering from an electronics shop instead):

• Radio receiver
• Servos
• Motor
• LiPo battery
• Camera / video transmitter

I’ve made the choice to buy these parts because it’s impractical (or even unsafe, in the case of the LiPo battery) to fabricate these parts myself in the scope of this project.
