DIANA WAGNER | HM(a)A

About Me

I am a lifelong maker: artist and designer. I have a BFA in Sculpture and Extended Media and a Masters of Industrial Design. I have worked at Harvard as a functional apparel designer for the past 7 years developing soft, wearable robotic devices within the Biodesign Lab. My focus is designing with textiles through apparel, patternmaking, and sewing with consideration for human factors including: fit, comfort, and ease of use (especially donning and doffing for populations with disability and limited mobility).

In establishing functional apparel design within the lab, I have worked on research, development, and translation (prototype to production) of textile based exosuits that assist with human walking. More recently, I have worked on the design and development of textile based pneumatic actuator technology and its application in a soft robotic glove.

Outside the lab, I have a studio practice making art and objects and learning and practicing endangered hand skills such as shoemaking, basket weaving and tatting.
