HTMA Week 7: Casting the Aegis of Champions

With The International 2023 coming up, I decided to mold and cast the Aegis of Champions, the trophy that the players will battle over this weekend.
I grabbed the 3D file online from @Jhyrachy and Anthony helped me to process it through Fusion 360 for machining.

Because I did not model the walls, the paths are quite poor and leaves thin walls; but I was running low on time so I just had to run with it for now.

Milling the aegis
Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the finished block. While the finished mill didn’t have its thin walls broken, I accidentally broke one side off while getting it off of the machine. So, I had to get an acrylic piece and hot glue it to seal the broken side before making the mold with the OOMOO.

However, this first mold cast didn’t turn out well. Too many air bubbles.

The second try was much better, after Anthony suggested using a brush first to cover the surfaces.

With a better mold, I proceeded to cast the aegis using Drystone.

It turned out pretty well.
