1. Conception

Inspired by previous years' attempts to make 3D polyhedra and curved surfaces, I thought I would attempt make something truly big by making THE EARTH. I wanted the model to be spherical, constructed from curved surfaces inscribed with a topology matching the elevation profile the Earth's surface.
