Interest in
Taking the Class
|
I look
to benefit from the collective knowledge
pooled together from the various
disciplines involved with this course.
This garnered brain trust will then help
me to think more creatively, logically,
and on a holistic scope when I undertake
current and future
project.

Idea I
I would like to make a micro-liquid
deposition machine for various conductive, dielectric, &
luminescent solutions.

Design
Parameters (Idea) Words &
Drawings
Ideally
independent means to accomplish
each FR. AN FR CAN HAVE SEVERAL
POTENTIAL DPs. The "best one"
ultimately must be selected
|
|
Uniformity Control can be accomplished
by design of despension mechanisms of
uniform droplets; surface topology of
substrate, a thermal deposition of liquid
as opposed to the physical liquid droplet
method or a physical "flattening" of
droplet.
Packaging of sheet can be accomplished
by a top sheet application of a roller;
gluing; and UV curing step after Inkjet
printing.
An airtight enclosure with a positive
nitrogen pump to prevent air leakage.

Analysis
Experiments, Words, FEA, Equations,
Spreadsheets ....
Economic
(financial or maximizing score
etc), time & motion, power,
stress... Each DP's FEASIBILITY
MUST BE PROVEN. Analysis can be
used to create DP's
|
|
Economics:
Pumps can be expensive
Material for the printer head can be
expensive
Films can range from $1 - $1000 per 25
grams for quality
(Develop Price Chart for the depositing
materials of interest)
(Develop Price Chart for the Inkjet
head material)
Development Time:
Developing and making a heating element
to vapor deposit material on substrate
could become time intensive for maintain
film uniformity. Accounting for heat
resolution. Once develop, the heating
method could prove to be time intensive
per "drop" dispensed as opposed to a
droplet method. But the overall quality
could be better.
Performance:
Micro Thermal-Evaporator Head may
require extreme temperature gradients an
may affect the types of substrate
materials used as well as printer head
material.
Droplet Delivery head maybe better time
wise but uniformity maybe problematic.

|
|
Foreseeable Risks:
Building an in-house airtight enclosure
maybe prove to be difficult.
Motor Drives will be developmental
intensive.
Uniformity will be the greatest hurdle
to leap over.
Thermal Evaporator head maybe more
difficult than droplet delivery, but the
research potential maybe of extreme
importance.

|
|
Counter Measures:
Instead of building an airtight
enclosure, it maybe cost beneficial to buy
airtight, nitrogen environment.
Uniformity at this stage will not be of
extreme importance, and to have a low
yield process work most of the time.
