One of the things I am pondering is how to build a good, affordable 3D printer or related machines.

Approach

Develop a list of principle components/modules

Build up a quick and dirty prototype to discover the easy/hard stuff.

Evaluate the above

Develop a modular architecture, and start mapping components out towards the machine I want to build. Here is a map of the thoughts/components of the project:
