Adam Pressel

My name is Adam Pressel, I like to build and make things - personally and professionally! In high school, as I worked for a general contractor doing residential renovation and construction, I got hooked. Since then, I've been an avid woodworker and am now an active member of the hobby shop (probably my favorite place on campus). I am amazed at the access that MIT students have to makerspaces and the warm culture that the institution fosters to build things yourself. It truly embodies Mind and Hand.

At MIT, I am a second year graduate student in Course 2N, though I am also pursuing a Course 6 Masters. Course 2N is a unique program for Naval Engineering in the MechE Dept for active-duty US and foreign Naval Officers - I am a Diving and Salvage Officer specializing in deep sea salvage and recovery and underwater ship's maintenance, as well as other nuanced mission sets.

Professionally, my academic background is in computer engineering where I took an interest in embedded programming. After graduating college and joining the Navy, I was privileged to see the gritty reality that is industrial engineering and the heavy industries of shipbuilding - quite a juxtaposition from the precision and cleanliness of computer engineering.

I am excited to take this course to learn the skills, operation, and precision workflow of the entire manufacturing/fabrication cycle.
