Week 14: Machine Design

The assignment for this week was to rapidly prototype a machine to be used for building other machines.

I worked in a group to build a machine that makes 3D prints out of hot glue. Here was the overall design plan:

We chose that specific layout to be able to work in three dimensions and maximize our work area.

We built four linear stages out of cardboard, following the SCIENCE project. I helped with the assembly of the stages — folding and gluing cardboard, adding motors and guide screws, and fitting the guide shafts.
