Week 1, Class introduction & planning, designing final project
1. Lecture about "digital fabrication" and CAD
2. Plan and sketch a potential semester project
For the final project, I would like to fabricate "wheel without bearing." As many people are interested in micro/nano scale devices,(such as MEMS device and micro-control tech) every single parts of machine also have to be resized. In MIT, there was micro-engine projects, which was fundamentally same structure as ordinary internal combustion engine. However, there was some problem related to parts, most of them couldn't survive against high temperature, velocity condition.
Microengine composite
I think for the micro/nano machine, we need to build totally different concept of design, mechanism, and fuel and so on. As one of this, I want to make a prototype of rotating actuator without bearing.
In order to eliminate friction problem(I think it is one of the most difficult and important thing should be considered), I want to make "hold-rotate-release" mechanism actuator.
Conceptual design of final project
Above design is first revision of prototype design for developing my idea and I will update my idea and its progress through this page...
