Composites

Composite materials, often shortened to composites or called composition materials, are engineered or naturally occurring materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties which remain separate and distinct within the finished structure.

For this week project, I had a clear idea as what I wanted to do. I’m interested in architectural modular systems. So began by looking at tiling systems that could be reconfigured depending on the orientation. For this an equilateral triangle is great. This part of the process was all done in rhino 5

After that I created a tool path in rhinocam and generated a csv file for the kuka robot using a rhino plug in developed in the robot lab.

Make sure you seal your mold and add mold release.

I used Blick gesso to seal the mold and Mann 500 easy release

when cut your absorptive layer make you cut larger then the size of your mold

same goes to your fabric. I used a polyester fabric

this layer will prevent the absorptive layer and the fabric to stick together.

Take your time when making your vacuum bag. It is very crucial that you don't have air leaks

Now the fabric is socked in resin and laid on the mold.

Some how I had an air leak and I couldn't get full vacuum..

This is how it would look like if everything would have gone right..
