How Oliver Bucklin Made Almost Anything

Press Fit Kit: Ipad/Old School TVPFsketch

The cardboard we were given has a funky old feeling to it, so I decided to make a retro TV set that uses an iPad as the screen. here is my initial sketch(actually there is an even rougher sketch on the top of that sheet of paper).

From there, I went into Rhino 3D to design the form and output my cut files. This is the basic form my TV will take, and an exploded axonomertic that shows the assembly and interior structure. It has a main body with a hole for the screen and a smaller rack that carries the iPad and inserts into the main body.

And these are the sheets that I laser cut.

I measured the cardboard to .166in thick. I did a few tests and determined that .15in was a good setting for the cutfile that accounted for laser kerf. In places where I had long sections of joints that had to fit together, I had didn't offset for laser kerf in order to make assembly easier.

I didn't label my pieces, but maybe I should have!

I offset to the wrong side, and the iPad didn't fit the first time.

I wanted a sandblaseted Plexiglass grill. Here's a vinyl stencil on the plexi piece. After I bead-blasted it, I realized I had offset incorrectly, and so it wouldn't fit into the rest of the model. Looks great though!

Here is the near-complete model with internal frame shown.
