Modular Structure Design

I initially decided to build a modular unit that can form into a 3 dimensional dome structure. The intended purpose of the dome would be to create a head mounted projection space or secondarily, an immersive dome that can encompass the whole figure of a person. It will be used to create immersive experiences for use in tattooing.

However, the process led me to simply gain familiarity with the tools of fusion 360, coreldraw, laser cutting, and vinyl.

Exoskeleton pavilion designed out of wood that uses a modular system for forming two shapes into a dome structure. This design uses zip ties to hold the form together but I would like to try a similar mechanism using press fit connection in cardboard

This was my first time trying to design something with parameters. I found it to be very helpful when I needed to make adjustments to the sizes to match kerf tolerance and design changes at a later point. So moving forward I will try to parameterize as much as possible.

I decided to try out different joints by hand to see how the cardboard fits into itself before moving onto the laser cut version.

I ended up creating a small replica of a tattoo design I recently did for a client and overall really enjoyed the process of using the vinyl cutter. However, transferring the vinyl print onto the transfer tape was quite tricky with such a delicate design.
