Week 3: 3D Scanning and Printing

Why are we not 3D printing everything?

For this week I 3D printed interlocking pretzels designed in Fusion360.

Using Fusion360, I first sketched a circle profile and used sweep to twist the circle around itself until I achieved a pretzel shape. I also sculpted the mesh a bit to make the pretzel look organic.

I imported the stl into prusa and added blockers to support the shape I was printing. I laid one pretzel down flat purposely to support the overall precarious structure.

It printed shockingly well on the first try! I used brown filament for realism.

Had way too much fun ripping off the support filament. Hardly any spaghetti-ing, I sanded it a bit too. Look at that smile! :-)

I use this thing as a keychain now, its great.

For 3D scanning I used polycam which is a pretty handy photogrammetry app. It utilizes LiDAR scanning if you have a newer iPhone (It's also super fast at compressing). I scanned my face a few times and got a couple interesting results.

I also like to use polycam for scanning environments. Here is what my apartment looks like!
