week10
assignment - computer-controlled machining
make (design+mill+assemble) something big (meter-scale)
while i was thinking about what to make for this week's CNC assignment, i saw two things: 1 is this piece of foam 2 is a piano chair
therefore, i decided to use CNC to machine the foam into a piano chair. the first step i took was to 3D scan the piano chair. below is the 3D-scanned model and the texture mapping.
the fablab at the GSD has a CNC Machine that is able to machine 4'x8' models up to 6" thick. it uses MasterCam to export G code to the
it took me a couple of years to familiarize myself with its interface. it is a very comprehensive software, offering a wide range of tools and sophisticated, precise settings

the cutting process started, taking 40 minutes. during the process, the machine automatically changed tools
