Computer-Aided Design

"Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is the use of computers (or workstations) to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design." -Wikipedia

I made a CAD mockup of my final project, an electromechanical replica of the human small intestine.

I decided I wanted to spend the semester making a gut machine, which I sketched out (Fig. 1).

Fig. 1. Sketch of the gut machine.

I anticipate prototyping the gut machine will involve 3D printing and computer-controlled cutting (for the flat base), molding and casting (for the silicone compression tubes), embedded programming (for the microcontoller with buttons), and many other making techniques. From my sketch I created a computer-aided design (Fig. 2).

As the weeks progress, I hope to learn and implement the skills necessary for making the gut machine.
