Week 1: laser and vinyl cutting

Skills used: Rhino, laser cutter, vinyl cutter

Part 1, laser cutting:
For this week's laser cutting assignment, I created a laptop stand to prop my computer up to match the height of my monitor and manage cords.

Pictured below is a before (left) and after (right) photo of my desk

The design started here as a sketch. Initally, it was three seperate pieces intented to slot together -- however, it was quickly reduced to one single piece that curled around to meet near the ends.

Referencing our groups settings, I adjusted the file to have one setting too first score the cardboard, then cut out the profile and the holes for the cords.

The power settings weren't strong enough to score the double-layered corrugation during the first test, so I had to finish the job with an Olfa knife. Then, while manually scoring the cardboard, I realized that the scrap cardboard I was using was oriented the wrong direction and pieces began to fall out.

On the second test, I reoriented the cardboard so that the direction of the corrugation and the score were perpendicular to one another, scaled up the size, and added an additional hole for cable management.

Part 2, vinyl cutting:
For my vinyl cut, I found a spooky smiley face image on Google to create a sticker for my water bottle.
