Week 0

The goal of this week is to try as many softwares as possible.

Final Project Pitch

My final project will involve a transparent office seperator, equipped with a lot of independent agents able to fold and unfold depending on the environment. For example on a very sunny day they can unfold to create more shade, on a cloudy day they fold in to let the light through. They could also react to people approaching, so that a person approaching rapidly would make the wall react aggresively, quickly shading, whereas a person slowly creeping up on the wall will create a less dramatic effect (sort of like sea anemones).

2D raster: I tried Gimp and found it good, but kindof hard to work with.

2D vector: Next I tried Inkscape, and loved it, very intuitive! Here's a quick sketch I did of my final project.

3D: Having most experience with Solidworks I drew up my parts there.

Rendering: I then tried rendering with Blender, and found the software good, but it will take some time to understand it enough to have it working for my purpose. Instead I installed PhotoView 360 in SolidWorks and managed to create this rendering:

Animation: Finally I used the solidworks motion toolbox to create a small video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruFYm-G-I3E
