About Me

Week 1

The assignment for this week is to cut something on the vinyl cutter and to design, lasercut, and document a parametric construction kit. I create a robot using the lazer cutter in CBA. Robot The front of the robot is a raster of a robot that my lab made, called Jibo. It was challenging to find the correct alignment of the Jibo figure and the front of the robot. Moreover, it took me a while to discover a program that could generate the parts of the robot. I struggled with Fusion 360 for a while until a friend told me about cuttle.xyz. I used cuttle.xyz to design the maze and the robot. Also, I used cuttle.xyz to parameterize everything.

Another aspect of the project that was challening was trying to create the wheels. Since we weren't allowed to use wheels, I had to create a cube that was wide enough to keep the wheels in place. In the future, I'll make the wheels more sturdy by using a screw or lego to create the axis. Another challenging aspect of this project was trying to find the correct size of the robot. If the robot was too small, the card board slits would break easily. I decided that it would be best if the sides of the robot were fairly large.

I had a lot of fun with using the vinyl cutter. I used cuttle.xyz and CorelDraw to print out the final Jibo sticker. The most challenging aspect of this process was ensuring that the sticker portion was able to stick on the iPad. As a result, I ensured that that I peeled the sticker towards my body.
