machine design
This week, we had to design a machine with an actuation mechanism. There was a group assignment, but I needed to also test out the mechanical components for my final project. Actuating a machine is probably the most advanced concept to learn thus far. It involves all the parts of the course I am struggling with (electronic design and embedded programming).



I wanted the drawers on my final project to have a mechanism to pull out (to make it easier to put in seeds). I 3D printed two shelves and then had to make a silicone insert for the seeds. Because the shelves would be 5 inches deep, I couldn't mill the silicone mold, so I had to 3D print them. I forgot to using nonstick spray unfortunately.

I had to break it open in order to release it (which meant I only could make a single casting). Hard lessons learned...

Once I fitted everything together, I realized that I would need to sand or smooth out the connection between parts, since pulling the drawer out with my hands was clunky.

I tried to attach rods at the back of the shelf base. These would be pushed in or out, which would pull the drawer. I did not get very far, because it left me with these protrusions in the back. I need to think of a better way to integrate a pulling mechanism.
