Week 10 Mechanical Machine Design

For the Mechanical machine design assignment, which was a group assignment, we decided to work on a chocolate printer. We split up in groups for different tasks in the process, and I was in the assembly team.

ASSEMBLY

I was part of the Assembling team, which would be responsible for putting all parts together. In this page I am only going to share a few thoughts on my participation, but you can check the group page to see the whole process.

Because we had split up in separate groups and I did not participate in the design of the parts, the first challenge was to figure out how the "LEGO" pieces were going to fit together by looking at the 3D model.

While we put things together, the design team figured that some things were not going to work well as they were, and some modifications to this model were done along the way.

Assembly is pretty straightforward, but we had to take care about some important details, like countersinking the holes in areas where another part was going to be attached or roll over. The part I learn the most about was the rollers and belts. I had never done a rail structure before and it was interesting to see how it's done. I think that assembling the machine was a good way to get an understanding on how it works and how all parts come together.
