Week 1

Computer-aided design

This week we had to get familiar with CAD tools. Since high school, I've always used AutoCAD, and it's always worked fine for me. It's great for 2D, but when it comes to 3D... Also, it lacks some of the modeling and simulation tools other software packages have. So, this week I started to learn about its big brother: Fusion 360.

And so far, so good. Initially, it was not as intutive as I expected. I was comming from AutoCAD, and I was hoping that 2D sketching didn't change too much (wrong assumption). But after a couple of video tutorials I can do thing fairly quickly. Parametric design is awesome (I've never used it before), I can start a rough design and then fix it. I also love the Time Line (it's super easy to change previeous steps - I hated that from AutoCAD).

I'm still working on the concept of final project. Once I finish it, I'll start the sketch in 3D. I've played a little bit with Fussion 360's 3D tools and I'm quite surprised (it's a lot better than AutoCAD in that sense!).
