Computer Aided Design
Tattoo Machine - Final Project Brainstorm
UPDATE: After speaking with staff about this project, it has been unfortunately abandoned
due to safety concerns.
For my final project I wanted to do something that I think
I would genuinely enjoy. I thought it would be super cool if
it would be possible for me to make a tattoo machine that can
read in an image from somewhere (slightly similar to the mods software
we've been using so far for vinyl cutting) and create a toolpath to tattoo someone's skin.
The top part of the machine would move to the right area of skin, while the bottom component would
work at penetrating the skin very fast with a needle (the video above is slowed down tremendously)
to deposit ink.
Precision in tattooing has always been hard to achieve and I thought it would be
really interesting for me to try to take this art to an even more digital
precise level. This current design is based off of a rotary machine, rather
than a coil one. I have not worked out the precise details of exactly how to build
this quite yet. The CAD is very primitive and was done in blender.
